A message from the Chair...

I recently had the opportunity to meet with the president of the Marine Corps Intelligence Association, Ernie D'Antonio.  Our conversation was cordial and informative, to say the least.  Many things of mutual interest were discussed, especially the state of our respective intelligence associations.

Ernie asked many weighty questions to which I deferred answering until I received feedback from our members to formulate a unified response.

With this in mind, I'm asking for your input through an on-line survey.  Please be candid and constructive in your responses.  Go to this link: MCITTA/MCIA Survey and complete the questions by December 15th.

Thank you for your continued support to MCITTA.

Harry

Lest We Forget...

 Thank you for your service.

Marine Corps 234th Anniversary

MCITTA Chairman of the Board's Message

This year, as the Marine Corps celebrates 234 years of continuous and selfless service to America, we at the Marine Corps Interrogator Translator Teams Association make ready to celebrate our seventh anniversary as an organization.

Our brothers remain engaged in conflicts not made any easier by geography and politics.  The Corps is, once again, in a fight for its very survival which makes recent decisions by MCITTA to preserve our legacy all the more paramount.  Without the success of the recently accepted monument project we will see our legacy become nothing more than a fading memory.  We need to be directed in this effort to preserve our contribution to the overall history of the Corps.  I encourage all our members to take up this challenge and secure for future generations of Marines our legacy and the memory of those who honored us in the execution of the profession.

Using long established habits of taking on matters of interest perceived or actual like Marines of the past, our new leadership is addressing Association needs.  This task does not reside totally with them.  It is a task you, the membership, must focus upon to ensure the continued success of MCITTA.  Being focused has garnered our Corps' fame and lasting gratitude.  It will also provide for MCITTA the same but only if an effort by you, the members, see the purposes of our organization succeed.

On this 234th Birthday, as we celebrate with friends in the varied locations across our country, enjoy and reflect, think of those young men and women serving in foreign lands and think of our place in this history.  Think of our young Marines making new history and think of the history of our MCITTA.  That history is of our recent making so take the time to preserve our legacy so it receives the acknowledgement so richly deserved.

Happy Birthday and long lasting "Success to the Marines"- and to the MCITTA.

Semper Fidelis

A BIRTHDAY MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS

United States Marines represent the best young men and women our Nation has to offer.   To be a Marine is to be a member of America's warrior class- to be one of the few who steps forward with the courage and conviction to face whatever dangers await.  Our Nation expects her Marines to be ready when the Nation calls, to leave family and the comforts of home behind, to march into battle and thrive under austerity, and come home under a victory pennant.

From Al Anbar in the west of Iraq, to Helmand province in the south of Afghanistan, our Corps of Marines can always expect to be found where the fight is the toughest.  Such is our history.  Today, as we write the final chapter on our history in Iraq, we will increasingly take the fight to the enemy in Afghanistan and add new pages to our legacy in places called Delaram, now Zad, and Garmsir.  One day we will return to our Naval heritage and patrol the high seas with our Navy brothers.  Such is our future.

As we celebrate our Corps' 234th birthday, we first pause to reflect and pay tribute to those Marines who have given the last full measure in defense of freedom.  We extend our deepest gratitude to our Marine Corps families, the unsung heroes who endure hardship and sacrifice so that we are able to go forward and accomplish any mission.  We extend our appreciation to our countrymen who have answered our every need and we celebrate the magnificent men and women who willingly and selflessly continue to go into harm's way to protect this great Nation.

To all who have gone before, to those who wear the uniform today, and to the families that give us the strength to forge ahead- I wish you all a heartfelt Happy 234th Birthday!

Semper Fidelis,

     James T. Conway
General, U.S. Marine Corps

7th Annual Gathering

Our 7th Annual Gathering is over and declared by all to have been well done, enjoyable and an unqualified success.

Our special thanks to our hosts Jim & Lynne Riemer: Good food, well planned venues, and good friends- a sure combination for success.

This was a transitional Gathering for the MCITTA and encompassed many proposals for change that will impact our future.  A full report will follow in the next edition of The Spot Report due by the end of the year.  Stay tuned for some very important announcements and information on changes, such as the change indicated under the Board of Directors.  The General Assembly voted to eliminate the need for the election of officers and appointed the Board to govern and provide the Association direction for the future.  More changes and a new direction are forthcoming.  Stay up to date at our MCITTA website at www.mcitta.org.
