In Honor of Their Service and Sacrifice

Author, Author?

Have you heard— our Past Team Commander Harry Todd has joined the ranks of literary giants?  As author Edwin Schlossberg said, “The skill of writing is to create a context in which other people can think.”  Harry’s first recently published endeavor was written with this in mind.  A chronicle presented in anecdotal form relates the adventures/misadventures of people living under the stress of the times in the Marine Corps intelligence community.

THE PIANITTCI PAPERS by FNU P. INTEL (nom de plume for Harry) is now available.

Harry was a member of the Intelligence field for twenty years. He has witnessed many of these tales and swears all of them to be true.  He decided to put his anecdotal collection to paper after many years of hearing friends telling him it should be done. Harry says they are humorous and just enough on the edge that most, except those actually involved, would not believe their veracity.

Harry’s tome may be obtained at  Publish America by title or by ISBN: 1-60610-081-5; or directly by phone at 1-301-695-1707.  It is also listed at Amazon.com.  It’s sure to be a fun read.  You may even recognize yourself; carefully disguised, of course.

ELECTION NEWS

The election of new officers to govern our MCITTA is fast approaching.  Elections will be held during the summer of this year and the new officers will be installed at the San Diego Gathering in October.

We are in need of volunteers to run for these offices.  If you have the time and desire, and wish to be involved with the continued growth and progress of our Association, please step forward to seek a position and make a difference for our organization.  We need your support.

7th Annual Gathering News

Jim and Lynne Riemer, have been hard at work putting together a most inviting package for the MCITTA Annual Gathering to be held in San Diego.  Their efforts have paid off with a few changes to their already great scheduled plans.

This is sure to be a great opportunity to experience, once again, our roots and heritage at Boot Camp.  We will be attending a recruit graduation and mingle with today's young Marines at the renown MCRD, San Diego.

First of all, in order to obtain more reasonable hotel room rates for our San Diego Gathering, we have moved the planned dates to Tuesday, 6 October 2009 through Friday the 9th.  Mark these dates on your calendar and join your fellow Marine Interrogators for what is sure to be a splendid event, filled with memorable activities.

Additional information on reservations and any changes will be forthcoming by special E-Bulletin, in the next edition of The Spot Report and on our MCITTA website.  Here is the latest tentative schedule:

Budget Set Back

As you know, the Marine Corps Interrogator Translator Teams Association is a fraternal organization without dues, which is rather unique, but relies on the generosity of its members for economic support.  The current financial crisis our country is experiencing and we are all feeling, has also had significant impact on our Association.  The bad news is, donations are down dramatically over the last six months.

Publication of our newsletter, The Spot Report, costs an average of one thousand dollars per issue for printing and postage.  This amount, of course, does not take into account the numerous man-hours of labor generously donated by several of our members and their spouses.  Our present dearth of donations, coupled with an increase in printing and postage costs, unfortunately is forcing us to make some decisions to reduce our administrative costs.  We have been publishing The Spot Report three times annually, but with our weakened financial posture we are forced to reduce our publication schedule to twice annually.  This is not a decision of choice, but one of necessity.

I welcome any suggestions and/or input of ideas on how we can ameliorate this financial situation and to increase our viability.  Please contact me directly at my email address.  This is urgent, Gentlemen.

Jim Haskins
